Funeral and reception

Funeral service is by invitation only at St Giles' Church, Cropwell Bishop on Monday 15th November 2021 at 2pm, followed by a private cremation service for immediate family only.  The funeral service will be broadcast to further invited guests next door in The Old School, Fern Rd, Cropwell Bishop, NG12 3BU.  All guests from both events will then gather in The Old School and adjacent marquee from about 3 pm for refreshments and a slide-show of Alex's life.  The family will join the reception on their return from the cremation.

We're desperately sorry that, due to the size of the buildings and the need for Covid precautions, we have to restrict attendance in this way.  However, everyone is very welcome to stand in the churchyard or to line the roads to pay their respects.  There will be speakers so that you can listen to the service in the churchyard. At the request of Alex's patients, the funeral cortege will drive around Cotgrave from about 1.15 to 1.40 pm before the funeral.  It will pass Ash Lea School, Church Farm Nursing Home, the main entrance of The Cotgrave Hub (Cotgrave Surgery) and the Cotgrave Welfare before returning via Ringleas and Hollygate Lane to Cropwell Bishop.

For those unable to join us in Cropwell Bishop, the entire service will be professionally live-streamed online. The viewing link for this livestream is here: https://vimeo.com/event/1492928 - in order to access the page you will need to use the following password: 2021macdonald . You can log on from 1.45 pm onwards and the site will remain available for up to a month after the funeral.

The family ask that everyone at the church and Old School event wears a mask and takes a lateral flow test beforehand.  Please do not come if you have any possible symptoms of Covid.  Please observe social distancing as much as possible.

To avoid disruption of the livestream broadcast, please turn all mobile phones off completely (not just silent or aeroplane mode) if you are anywhere near the church or Old School.

Parking in Cropwell Bishop can be very congested, especially in the area of the church and the Co-op and shops/pub near the junction of Nottingham Rd, Fern Rd and Church St.  Please avoid parking anywhere between this junction and the church, or anywhere on Nottingham Rd in the centre of the village.  You may be able to find parking spaces on other residential roads in the village.  Parking has also been offered at the Chequers pub on Church St and in the small car park of the Memorial Hall (on the left immediately as you enter the village from Nottingham).  Overflow parking will be available in the small car park adjacent to the canal towpath before the Memorial Hall.  A parking steward outside the church will provide advice and directions if needed.  Please allow plenty of time to find a parking space and to make your way to the service.  For locals, please walk or car-share if you can.
